Heroes Qu… er… Quest For Glory Now Available On GOG!

The time has come. The hero of legend has ventured through the medieval lands of Spielburg, the dry and dusty wastes of Shapeir, the wild jungles of Tarna, and the spooky and cleverly narrated Moravia. He also did whatever the hell you did in Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire. Now, that hero is back, ready to relive all of these journies with you, for only $10.00, on GOG.com.

Really, I shouldn’t have to say anything else. This series produced, in my opinion, the best point-and-click adventure games of the entire era. Moreover, the games were actually clever hybrids of point-and-click with RPG’s, complete with character progression, multiple paths and endings, and great humor.

In other words: BUY THIS NOW.

The Kickstarter Chronicles: Larry Laffer Raises $500,000!

They said it couldn’t be done, but as usual, they were wrong. Al Lowe’s Kickstarter project to remake Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards has officially met, and exceeded, its goal of $500,000 with six more days to spare.

As of 2:17 PM, Eastern, the project has earned the support of 11,181 backers who have pledged $502,756. I believe this officially means the game is already more successful than Box Office Bust.

Now that the project is definitely happening, you may want to put your money down. If for no other reason than to see videos of Al Lowe talking shit about Sierra. Its pretty good stuff. Check out the kickstarter here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/leisuresuitlarry/make-leisure-suit-larry-come-again

Review: The Walking Dead Episode 1

Telltale Rises From The Grave

Word on the e-street is that most folks read stingers for articles, but rarely click through to read the whole things. Some websites try to combat this by teasing readers, trying to entice them into clicking through. Thats fine, but I want to get this out of the way early: The Walking Dead is great, and you should probably get it.

Telltale’s latest venture into episodic gaming, The Walking Dead, represents the studio’s most mature take on the adventure genre. Taking cues from games like Heavy Rain and its predecessor Fahrenheit, The Walking Dead combines mature themes, graphic violence, evolved adventure gaming mechanics, and a host of player choices (with consequences) into their best game to date.

Read on to find out more.

Free DLC: Silent Hill Downpour

Join Mike and Jeff for another episode of the Free DLC Podcast where they discuss the newest entry into the Silent Hill franchise: Downpour. Jeff has played through the entire game and he has some interesting things to say about it. Without any spoilers, Mike went into the podcast expecting to think one way about the game and ended up doing a complete 180. If you ever enjoyed the Silent Hill games, you should probably check this episode out.

Also discussed: the terrifically flawed Silent Hill HD Collection. I’ll save you the trouble on this one: don’t get it. It’s a mess.

The Kickstarter Chronicles: Leisure Suit Larry Rides Again

He's back!

With Double Fine’s precedent-setting mega success crowd-funding their new adventure game through Kickstarter, it was inevitable that other developers would jump on the bandwagon to fund projects that just wouldn’t exist under the “normal” publishing system. While some folks are all excited about your Wastelands and your Shadowruns, I am far more interested to visit the Land Of The Lounge Lizards again.

Asuras Wrath DLC Details and Review

Asuras Wrath is one of those polarizing games that you either love or hate.  There is little middle ground as some may fall in love with the over the top anime stylings while others will loathe it’s simplicity and see it as an endless string of quick time events with very little to qualify it as a game in the first place.  For my part I absolutely loved Asuras Wrath, and as I can count the number of anime series I like on 3 fingers, I see that as a testament to the story, action, and visuals Capcom has assembled with their little experiment.  Over the next few months DLC will be trickling out to flesh out (and rewrite) some of the story, plus some extra goodies.  Here are the details for the DLC release schedule and a review of the first piece of DLC available now!

Free DLC: Mass Effect 3 Spoilercast

A few key points:

  1. The endings for Mass Effect 3 are spoiled completely and early on in this podcast, so try not to ruin the game for yourself by listening to us talk about it until you are ready.
  2. Both Mike and Jeff do wade into the controversy surrounding the endings.
  3. Mass Effect 3 is NOT the perfect entry point for people new to the series.

All that being out of the way, enjoy our discussion of Mass Effect 3. Clocking in at well under an hour, this may be the shortest spoilercast we will ever do.

On The Horizon: Tiny Troopers

Hey, remember all those mean things I said about Cannon Fodder 3? Did that make you sad? Angry? Dissapointed that Cannon Fodder may never get a worthwhile modern followup?

As it turns out, it just might.

Finnish developer Kukouri Mobile Entertainment, along with mobile powerhouse publisher Chillingo, is currently working on Tiny Troopers, a game that clearly derives some of its spiritual essence from Cannon Fodder.

The developers haven’t said much about the game, but an early look at a GDC video revealed a fast paced action title that wears its Cannon Fodder inspiration on its sleeve. An official trailer is due out soon, and we will post it here when it’s available.

For now, you can check out the Tiny Troopers website here: http://www.kukouri.com/tinytroopers/

Tiny Troopers is currently scheduled to launch in Q2 2012 (soon!) on iOS/Android with PC/MAC coming later on. Other platforms are apparently in the works as well.
